The Optoma Pico Pocket Projector is an incredible device. Apart from its amazingly small size, it produces a great picture, even in less than perfect light conditions, and its low energy consumption gives the Pico Projector a very acceptable battery life.

Dimensions of 2 inches by 4 inches by 0.7 inches make the Pico Pocket Projector smaller than many digital cameras and mobile phones – it truly is a pocket projector. At just 4 ounces it is light too. But do not be fooled by its small size. The Pico Pocket Projector gives a full size performance when it comes to the picture. This little beauty can project an image of 60 inches at a distance of nine feet, and does so with a contrast ratio of 1000:1. Of course this is the contrast ratio as measured by Optoma in optimum conditions, a completely darkened room (A movie theater would have a typical contrast ratio of 500:1). The good news is that the Pico performs well in real life conditions, producing a good picture contrast even in a less than perfect blackout.

Of course a small device like this cannot compete with larger systems when it comes to sound output, nevertheless its 0.5 watt single speaker is perfectly adequate for the target usage of sharing images from digital cameras, PDAs, smart phones and iPods. And the Pico does an advantage in the sound stakes – led technology means it does not need a cooling fan. The Pico Pocket Projector is totally silent.

Another big plus point gained by the use of light emitting diodes is the lamp life, a whopping 20 thousand hours. Battery life is officially rated at one and a half hours, although in practise a two hour battery life is not an unrealistic expectation.
